Biography

Hailing from Cupertino, California, Richard studies under the tutelage of Professor Thomas Robertello at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. He started studying flute with Dr. Ming Li and studied with Dr. Ray Furuta. He was a part of the Wind Ensemble One, Jazz Ensemble, and Symphony Orchestra at Homestead High School, and is Principal Flute at the California Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. For the 2021-22 orchestral season, as a winner of the annual concerto competition, Richard performed Mozart’s Flute Concerto in G Major.

Achievements

Richard has also participated in the Santa Clara County Honor Band in 2021 and 2022 as the second chair as flute one as well as piccolo. He is a reciepient of the Homestead High School Music Booster Scholarship, and has also been awarded a Command Superior Award at the CMEA Bay Section Solo and Ensemble Festival. In the summer of 2021, Richard attended Juilliard Summer Winds and Beyond the Masterclass. Richard has performed at masterclasses for Carol Wincenc, Robert Langevin, Jim Walker, Jill Felber, and Catherine Karoly.
